A floor lamp from elsewhere: the cosmic leaf

Marketed by Artemide, Ross Lovegrove’s “Cosmic leaf” is a floor lamp with a diffused lighting effect in the form of a leaf made of transparent polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) mounted on a chromium-plated steel structure and a brushed aluminium base. Ross Lovegrove compares this project to a “digital sheet come from another world, covered with scales like a reptile or an insect, which attracts light and shadow on its body to seduce its companion.” “Cosmic Leaf” has just joined the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago and will be presented among the new acquisitions at the “Rethinking technologies” exhibition running until 29 July 2012.
