Featherweight footwear
Manufacturers have always tried every possible way to make footwear lighter, speedier, comfier...for both sporty and sports-casual wearers. The job, apparently, is now done with the Unbelievable Testing Laboratory’s (UT.LAB) Light Wing Tyvek paper shoe. Not really paper, obviously, because US company DuPont’s Tyvek is actually a flashspun high-density polyethylene fibre, which makes it exceptionally rip-proof and moisture-resistant while remaining as light as paper! And the inner and outer soles and laces are obviously not of Tyvek but made from conventional high-performance materials.
The fact remains that using Tyvek has allowed UT.LAB to create the world's lightest shoe (eight times lighter than a pair of Converse trainers), and the material previously used mainly for aerospace applications, is running ahead of the game!
