Pappelina, very Swedish rugs

Lina Rickardsson, the designer behind the Pappelina brand, started out weaving rugs in her basement, in the small northern Swedish town of Falun. Traditional Swedish rugs are woven on old jacquard looms, and that’s what Lina used, but forsaking wool and cloth …for plastic! Her funky mats soon proved a big hit with customers attracted by the marriage of an authentic folk weave with modern material. She has now had to buy in old looms from Eastern Europe to meet the demand: her Pappelina plastic rugs are all the rage in Sweden and now sold in many countries. The plastic used is PVC, the same as the interior trim of Volvos. These plastic mats or rugs are machine washable and intended for both indoor and outdoor use.
