Plastic in our engines

Used to replace metal in automotive applications, two new resins protected by DuPont™ SHIELD technology – DuPont™ Zytel® PLUS nylon and DuPont™ Zytel® HTN92 PPA – are stronger and remain so, longer in hot and aggressive environments.
In this way, they help to double the life of automotive components under the bonnet.

They can also reduce the weight of a vehicle by up to 11 kg. If this weight loss is applied to the 72 million engines planned to be produced around the world in 2011, that will mean a saving of 3 million barrels of crude oil.
