The CTMP is a portable isolation chamber: it was designed to transport a contaminated patient or a patient with a risk of biological contamination. Conversely, it also protects the external environment from any contamination that can occur during land or air transport of a contaminated person.
Compared to conventional flexible transport systems, this innovative chamber, developed in 2003 at the request of military doctors for the military health department, has many advantages.
The chamber is comprised of two shells - a lower part with a double layer of composite materials and an upper part made from polycarbonate, and it is ultra-durable and does not tear. There are no sharp corners inside the chamber, enabling it to be cleaned - and therefore decontaminated, easily and thoroughly. The upper polycarbonate part is transparent and enables the patient to be monitored. In addition, the upper part has various airtight openings through which medical equipment, such as defibrillators, respirators and syringe pumps, etc., can be inserted.
The chamber was designed to avoid any contamination between the patient and medical staff as it is remarkably airtight and pressurised.
All the models operate under negative pressure for the transport of bacteriologically-contaminated patients, while the Ctmp2 can also be positively pressurised to transport immunocompromised patients.
Its hard structure enables it to be easily attached to an anchoring system, in an airplane or ambulance, for instance, or to a stretcher carrying frame.
It is sold in France, the French overseas territories, Algeria, Morocco and Russia by ATA. Sales have increased since the EPRUS, the public body that centralises the resources implemented by France in the event of health emergencies, chose the CTMP for transporting patients infected with the Ebola virus.
