Liquid glacial, a table in suspended lamination

Though Zaha Hadid is best known for her work as an architect, 2007 saw her turn her hand to designing curvy, light and resolutely modern furniture showcasing her fascination with advanced technologies and her characteristic perfectionism. The series of Liquid Glacial tables bring to mind the image of moving ice plates, extending downwards into legs that look like whirling eddies of water. According to Zaha Hadid, the table is the result of a long creative process - "the idea of glaciers and ice is something that we have been exploring for quite some time" - they are produced in Italy from a new type of acrylic resin and, much like her work, bring together strict forms, a fluid aesthetic and technical innovation.
