The unique design of the Cobra lamp

Designed in 1968 by famous designer Elio Martinelli for the Italian Martinelli Luce house, the Cobra lamp is an iconic figure in the world of design. It is made up of two parts connected by a central joint and has the shape of a simple sphere. Pivoting the base gives it the aspect of a snake in the striking position. This transformation is not the only reason for its success: it was also the first luminaire to be molded in injected thermoplastic resin. Its timeless, rounded curves have survived the test of time and the now fifty-year-old mythical Cobra lamp has been reissued in three colours, including a fiery red. As young and modern as ever, it is exhibited in the world’s greatest museums.
